From our friends at Indigenous Environmental Network:

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has opened a short period for public comment on a Proposed Rice Cultivation Offset Protocol and other carbon offsets including forest offsets known as REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation).

Please send in your comment rejecting the rice cultivation offset protocol, forestry offsets and carbon offsets of any kind, APRIL 1st, 2014.

SAMPLE TEXT:

To the California Air Resources Board;

Please cancel the Rice Cultivation Projects Compliance Offset Protocol and all existing and proposed Compliance Offset Protocols under the Cap-and-Trade Regulation. Offsets are a false solution to climate change and must be excluded from California’s Global Warming Solutions Act AB32.
Sincerely,

Please send a copy of your comment to noredd@igc.org

We have already sent in the No REDD Rice Manifesto, signed by over 125 organizations from 30 countries, who reject rice cultivation offsets and using our food for carbon credits. Read it here: http://no-redd.com/no-redd-rice-manifesto-no-wto-no-redd-no-to-using-rice-for-carbon-markets-2/

However, it is important to send in additional comments to show that the world rejects rice offsets, REDD and carbon offsets of any kind.
